• What about Acne?
Acne is one of the most common and stubborn skin problems. Regardless of skin type or lifestyle, approximately 80% of the population will suffer from acne at some point in their lives. Acne can affect us at almost any age; typically it begins during adolescence, when hormonal changes cause the enlargement and obstruction of sebaceous glands in the skin. Consequently, many people experience an abnormal proliferation of bacteria, predominantly propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). This typically causes painful, inflamed lesions that can appear on the face, chest, back, limbs and virtually any other part of the body. If left untreated or not treated early, can leave acne scars.
• How does IPL Acne PhotoClear™ work to clear acne?
Acne bacteria produce organic compounds as part of its normal metabolism. When these compounds are exposed to the deeply penetrating green-yellow wavelength light of Acne IPL, a photo thermal reaction produces oxygen below the surface skin, destroying acne bacteria. Simultaneously, thermal heat is also delivered to the skin which opens the pores and accelerates the photo thermal reaction causing further bacterial destruction. An additional red wavelength light reduces inflammation common to acne lesions. IPL Acne PhotoClear™ is great for teens and adults and can help heal and clear your face of acne.
• How effective is IPL Acne PhotoClear™?
Very effective. FDA approved, Acne IPL can provide up to 90% clearing of inflammatory acne lesions in only 1/3 the time it takes for standard topical and oral treatments, without adverse side effects.
• Does IPL Acne PhotoClear™ work on all types of acne?
Acne IPL is approved by the United States Food and Drug
Administration for treatment of mild to pustular inflammatory acne. The percentage of acne clearance will, of course, depend on the severity of acne and the number of treatments received.
• What are the treatments like?
The treatments are simple and usually last anywhere from 10-60 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area. Some patient’s experience mild discomfort but tolerate it relatively easily. Performed by either a doctor, physician Assistant, or nurse, IPL Acne PhotoClear™ light is simply placed over a spot of the treatment area and flashed. When the entire treatment area has been flashed, the treatment is over.
• How many treatments are required?
On average, IPL Acne PhotoClear™ requires 2 treatments per week for 4 weeks in moderate acne cases. Results are usually visible after 4 or 5 treaments and will continue to improve even after your final treatment session. Of course, the number of treatments necessary will vary for each individual, depending on the severity of acne, skin care habits etc. For best results, we recommend follow up sessions after you complete the initial acne program. The number and frequency of follow up sessions will vary from case to case.
